With dollars at stake and the value of video programming under the microscope as the DTV transition unfolds, negotiations over carriage and programming have never been so uncertain and so critical. As the FCC's October 1, 2008 must carry/retransmission consent election deadline looms, broadcasters' carriage negotiations with cable and satellite operators are heating up like never before. At stake: the availability of local broadcast signals to the nation's cable and satellite subscribers, as well as millions of dollars in fees and ad revenues. Program access regulations, program bundling/tying arrangements, and carriage negotiations for local television stations will also have a major impact on the available programming capacity of cable and satellite systems. About the Speakers: Robert Rini, Partner, Rini & Coran - Robert J. Rini's practice focuses on the representation of broadcast, fixed and mobile wireless broadband, new media and telecommunications interests before the FCC, Congress, courts and other federal and state administrative agencies. He has broad experience in general corporate, mergers and acquisitions, venture capital and corporate finance, regulatory, legislative, trademark and copyright law. She has been analyzing and valuing companies and assets in the multichannel and radio/TV station fields for 19 years, since joining SNL Kagan in 1988. Todd Stansbury, Partner, Wiley Rein LLP - Todd Stansbury has extensive experience representing media companies, satellite providers, programmers, investors, financial institutions and television and radio group owners in a wide variety of regulatory, corporate and transactional matters before the Federal Communications Commission.
