David Ardia, Director & Founder, Citizen Media Law Project

The Citizen Media Law Project (CMLP) is jointly affiliated with Harvard Law School's Berkman Center for Internet & Society and the Center for Citizen Media. David is a Fellow at the Berkman Center and the Director and Founder of CMLP. He received his J.D. from Syracuse University College of Law in 1996 and an L.M. from Harvard Law School in June 2007. Prior to coming to Harvard, he was assistant counsel a The Washington Post and before that was an associate at Williams & Connolly in Washington, D.C. where he handled a range of intellectual property and media litigation. While at Williams & Connolly, David also performed pre-publication libel review for the National Enquirer and In Touch Weekly. David is a former member of the Newspaper Association of America's Legal Affairs Committee and is a current member of the First Amendment and Media Litigation Committee of the American Bar Association, the Media Law Committee of the District of Columbia Bar, and the New England Media Lawyers Group.
Mark Britton, CEO and President, Avvo, Inc.

Mark Britton is a 16-year lawyer with deep experience in the legal and e-commerce industries. He is the CEO and president of Avvo, the only free website that empowers consumers to handle their legal matters with confidence. Prior to founding Avvo, Mark was the executive vice president of Worldwide Corporate Affairs of InterActiveCorp Travel (IACT) and Expedia, Inc. In this position, Mark oversaw all finance, strategy, corporate development, legal, human resources and government relations functions for the IACT companies, including Expedia, Hotels.com, Hotwire, Classic Custom Vacations and Interval International. Before Expedia's acquisition by InterActiveCorp, Mark was Expedia's senior vice president, general counsel and secretary and in this role built Expedia's legal and government relations teams from scratch. Prior to joining Expedia, Mark was an attorney and equity partner-elect of the law firm Preston, Gates & Ellis LLP (now K&L Gates). Mark also has worked as an attorney and clerk for small and medium-sized law firms and served as senior counsel to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. During his legal career, Mark has evaluated and hired hundreds of lawyers. Mark received his law degree from George Washington University. He also holds a degree in Finance from Gonzaga University and has served as an adjunct professor of Finance for Gonzaga in Florence, Italy.
Robert Corn-Revere, Partner, Davis Wright Tremaine LLP

Mr. Corn-Revere specializes in First Amendment, Internet and communications law. He has served as counsel in First Amendment litigation involving the Communications Decency Act, the Child Online Protection Act, Internet content filtering in public libraries, public broadcasting regulations and export controls on encryption software. In 1999 Mr. Corn-Revere was listed on a 30th Anniversary Roll of Honor by the American Library Association Office of Intellectual Freedom and Freedom to Read Foundation for his role as lead counsel in Mainstream Loudoun v. Board of Trustees of the Loudoun County Library. He successfully argued United States v. Playboy Entertainment Group, Inc., 529 U.S. 803 (2000), in which the U.S. Supreme Court struck down Section 505 of the Telecommunications Act of 1996 as a violation of the First Amendment. Mr. Corn-Revere also served as lead counsel in Motion Picture Association v. FCC, 309 F.3d 796 (D.C. Cir. 2002), in which the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit vacated video description rules imposed on networks by the FCC. He also Successfully petitioned Governor George E. Pataki to grant the first posthumous pardon in New York history to the late comedian Lenny Bruce. Before joining Davis Wright Tremaine L.L.P. Mr. Corn-Revere was a partner at Hogan & Hartson L.L.P.. Before that, he served as Chief Counsel to Interim Chairman James H. Quello of the FCC. He has written extensively on First Amendment, Internet and communications-related issues and is a frequent speaker at professional conferences.
Michael Fertik, Chief Executive Officer, ReputationDefender, Inc. - Michael Fertik is a repeat Internet entrepreneur and CEO with experience in technology and law. After law school, he clerked for Chief Judge Danny J. Boggs of the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals of the United States. He is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Law School.

Mr. Genetski is vice-chair of the Washington, D.C., office's Internet, Communications & Data Protection Practice. He has extensive experience advising clients on protecting proprietary information and intellectual property online. He conducts investigations for companies suffering a breach of computer security, infringement of intellectual property or other hostile Internet activity, and represents those companies in filing civil litigation, making criminal referrals, or defending state and federal regulatory inquiries. Mr. Genetski is a former trial attorney in the Computer Crime and Intellectual Property Section of the Criminal Division of the Department of Justice, where he coordinated the investigations of several prominent computer crime cases, including the widely publicized Denial of Service Attacks that hit e-commerce sites eBay, Amazon.com and others in February 2000, and prosecuted criminal copyright, trademark and Economic Espionage Act cases. He also trained federal prosecutors and agents on computer crime, intellectual property rights enforcement, privacy, encryption, critical infrastructure protection and other issues arising in connection with new technologies.
David Green, Vice President, Public Policy Development, NBC Universal

David E. Green is Vice-President for Public Policy in NBC Universal’s Washington Government Relations Office, where he focuses on public policy issues involving the protection of digital content. Before joining NBC Universal in April of 2005, Mr. Green was the Vice President and Counsel for Technology and New Media for the Motion Picture Association of America, where he handled similar public policy issues for the major U.S. motion picture studios. Prior to joining the MPAA in May 2003, Mr. Green worked for the U.S. Department of Justice. There, he served as the Principal Deputy Chief of the Computer Crime and Intellectual Property Section of the Criminal Division, where he helped coordinate the national enforcement of criminal laws protecting against computer hacking and intellectual property theft. Before that, Mr. Green prosecuted public corruption cases as Senior Litigation Counsel in the Criminal Division’s Public Integrity Section. Mr. Green also worked for several years as an associate with the law firm of Arnold & Porter, where he was involved in litigation and in legislative work, including intellectual property protection. Mr. Green graduated from Oberlin College with a Bachelor of Arts in History. He received his Juris Doctorate, cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, and served as a law clerk to the Honorable Louis H. Pollak in Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

Steve Mortinger is a VP & Associate General Counsel for IBM’s Systems and Technology Group in Somers, NY. He has responsibility for IBM's virtual worlds policies and is co-chair of the ABA IP section's Special Committee on Computer Gaming and Virtual Worlds. Steve headed up the IBM cross-functional team that created IBM’s Virtual Worlds Guidelines for employees. Steve is additionally responsible for IBM's policy on Linux and open source and for providing legal support to IBM’s business partner channels, IBM’s OEM sales team and to various other headquarters functions. Prior to this, Steve was the first IBM lawyer supporting the Engineering & Technology Services group in IBM where he negotiated the chip design agreements for the Nintendo Wii and Xbox360 gaming consoles, among other things. Steve was also one of the early lawyers in IBM’s information technology outsourcing group and negotiated numerous large outsourcing agreements including the IT Services Agreement for the Sydney Olympic Games. Steve earned his JD from The Moritz College of Law at the Ohio State University and his BA with honors from Denison University.

Raymond T. Nimmer is currently the Leonard Childs Professor of Law at the
University of Houston Law Center and co-director of the Houston Intellectual
Property and Information Law Institute.
The author of twenty books and numerous articles, the first edition of his book
The Law of Computer Technology received a national book award from the
Association of American Publishers in 1985 and is currently in its third
edition. He has also published a book on Information Law (West) and
The Law of Electronic Commercial Transactions. (Pratt & Sons, 2003) with
Holly Towle. His most recent book is "Modern Licensing Law" (2nd edition, 2006,
West Publishing) (with Jeff Dodd). Professor Nimmer is a frequent speaker at programs in this country and overseas
in the areas of intellectual property, business and technology law. He was the
co Reporter to the Drafting Committee on Revision of U.C.C. Article 2 and the
reporter for the Uniform Computer Information Transactions Act (UCITA). He is a
consultant to the National Science Foundation and the Office of the Legal
Advisor of the U.S. State Department. In addition to his expertise in technology
issues, he is a expert in areas of business law. He is the author of a four
volume treatise on Commercial Asset Based Financingg and was a
Contributing Editor for a leading multi volume treatise on bankruptcy law.
He is admitted to practice in Illinois and Texas as well as the United States
Supreme Court. He is as a member of the American Law Institute, the Texas Bar
Foundation, and the American College of Commercial Finance Attorneys. He is
listed in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Law, the International Who's Who of
Internet Lawyers, and the International Who's Who of Business Lawyers.
Jules Polonetsky, Chief Privacy Officer and Sr. Vice President, Consumer Advocacy, America Online, Inc. (AOL)

As AOL's Chief Privacy Officer and SVP for Consumer Advocacy, Jules is responsible for ensuring that AOL's users can trust the company with their information and for educating employees about best practices for advertising, content, and product development. Jules previously served for four years as Vice President, Integrity Assurance, at America Online Inc. The Integrity Assurance team was responsible for a wide range of consumer protection and risk management issues for AOL's brands (America Online, AIM, Netscape, Compuserve, Mapquest, MoviePhone, Spinner, WinAmp, ICQ, Advertising.com) including privacy, advertising policy, content and community standards, product standards, parental controls, safety and accessibility for users with disabilities. From March 2000 through April 2002, Jules was Chief Privacy Officer and Special Counsel at DoubleClick, the advertising and marketing technology company that at the time was the largest internet company in New York City. In that role, he worked with DoubleClick clients to institute and police their privacy policies and managed compliance with data protection requirements for DoubleClick subsidiaries world-wide. In his Special Counsel role, Jules oversaw DoubleClick's government affairs activities and consumer related advertising practices. From January 1, 1998 until he joined DoubleClick in March 2000, Jules served as the NYC Consumer Affairs Commissioner for Mayor Rudolph Giuliani. As New York City's chief consumer law enforcement official, Jules was responsible for ensuring that all consumer advertising and sales complied with City, State and Federal consumer protection laws. Jules is a regular speaker at privacy and marketing industry events and has testified or presented as an industry expert before Congressional committees and the Federal Trade Commission.
Jessica Rich, Assistant Director, Division of Privacy & Identity Protection, Federal Trade Commission - Since July 1998, Jessica L. Rich has served as an Assistant Director in the Federal Trade Commission’s Bureau of Consumer Protection, first in the Division of Financial Practices and now in the Division of Privacy and Identity Protection. In that position, she has handled or overseen a variety of matters related to consumer privacy and data security, including investigations, enforcement, rulemakings, workshops, surveys, reports, testimony to Congress, consumer and business education, and general policy development. Such matters have included: the FTC’s privacy and data security enforcement actions against ChoicePoint, Microsoft, CardSystems, DSW Shoe Warehouse, and a variety of other commercial entities; development of the FTC’s Safeguards Rule, Disposal Rule, and Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act Rule; testimony to Congress regarding data breaches, data security, and the need for broader safeguards requirements; and several workshops examining emerging technologies and related privacy issues, including the FTC’s recent Town Hall on behavioral advertising. Prior to her appointment as Assistant Director, Ms. Rich served as Legal Advisor to the Director of the Bureau of Consumer Protection and a staff attorney in one of the FTC’s consumer fraud divisions. Before joining the FTC, Ms. Rich was an attorney in private practice in New York City. She received her law degree from New York University and her undergraduate degree from Harvard University.

Robert Rosenberg is Senior Vice President, Counsel, Digital Media, Sales & Marketing in Showtime Networks’ New York office, where he gets involved in most transactional aspects of Showtime Networks’ business, with a special concentration in the areas of technology and digital distribution. Before joining Showtime Networks in February 2001, Mr. Rosenberg worked as an associate with the law firm of Willkie Farr & Gallagher where he was involved in intellectual property and technology-based corporate transactions. Prior to becoming an attorney, Mr. Rosenberg was an Account Supervisor with the Ogilvy & Mather advertising agency. Ari Schwartz is the Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the Center for Democracy and Technology. Schwartz's work focuses on increasing individual control over personal and public information. He promotes privacy protections in the digital age and expanding access to government information via the Internet. He regularly testifies before Congress and Executive Branch Agencies on these issues. He also leads the Anti-Spyware Coalition (ASC) , anti-spyware software companies, academics, and public interest groups dedicated to defeating spyware. In 2006, he won the RSA award for Excellence in Public Policy for his work building the ASC and other efforts against spyware. He was also named one of the Top 5 influential IT security thinkers of 2007 by Secure Computing Magazine.

Asim Singh is a Paris-based attorney specialized in intellectual property and media law. He acts, in both contentious and non-contentious matters, for a wide range of clients, including TV broadcasters, cable and satellite operators, news agencies and advertisers. MSNBC has called Chris Wolf "a pioneer in Internet law." And, indeed, Chris was involved in the earliest matters involving the Internet, helping to make new law for new technologies. A litigation partner in the Washington, DC office of Proskauer Rose LLP, clients turn to Chris for all aspects of Internet risk management and dispute resolution. A recent focus has been on privacy law, online and offline. Chris is editor and lead author of the leading privacy treatise, Proskauer on Privacy, published by the Practising Law Institute. An outgrowth of his work for clients is Chris' substantial extracurricular work in fighting online hate speech, especially the content directed at children. Chris chairs the International Network Against Cyber-Hate. Chris is a 1980 magna cum laude, Order of the Coif graduate of the law school at Washington & Lee University, where he served on Law Review and was a Teaching Fellow. He graduated in 1976, cum laude, from Bowdoin College and was a General Course participant at the London School of Economics & Political Science. He clerked for U.S. District Judge Aubrey E.
